BREAKING: A 61-year-old Haitian national has been charged with vehicular manslaughter in connection with the death of 37-year-old police officer Stephen Duncombe, who died on Saturday following a traffic accident.
Jesucoeur Alcy was denied bail and remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services after appearing before Chief Magistrate Ancella Evans.
An interpreter was required during the proceedings after Alcy revealed that he does not speak fluent English.
The Department of Immigration, which was represented at the Magistrate’s Court, confirmed that Alcy holds a valid work permit set to expire in December 2026.
The matter will proceed by way of a voluntary bill of indictment, which is scheduled to be served on November 26, 2026. Magistrate Evans ordered the prosecution to notify defence counsel if the bill is ready before the scheduled date.
Alcy is represented by attorney Benjamin McKinney, while Inspector Deon Barr is prosecuting the matter.

It took the system five long years 2023 to drag driver the vehicle, Travis Sawyer, into court where he pleaded guilty to four counts of manslaughter by negligence and eight counts of negligently causing. All those months and years Sawyer was skipping and playing jumprope around here free and perhaps driving still on these dangerous New Providence roadways. We don’t know if he ever spent one day in prison. WELL WHAT IS THIS?
