NASSAU| Police Sergeant Steven Duncombe was laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery today following a funeral service at Bahamas Faith Ministries, as family, friends, colleagues and members of the Royal Bahamas Police Force gathered to pay their final respects.

Duncombe, a cyclist attached to the Traffic Division, died on September 14 following injuries sustained in a traffic collision two days earlier on Prince Charles Drive.

At the time of the crash, Duncombe was providing escort services for the funeral of fellow officer Constable Benson Miller.

Police said Duncombe was travelling west along Prince Charles Drive with his sirens activated when the collision occurred.

According to police, Haitian national Jesucœur Alcy was travelling in the opposite direction and attempted to turn right onto Garden Road, resulting in a collision with Duncombe.

Alcy was subsequently charged with vehicular manslaughter.

Duncombe’s death marked another loss for the Royal Bahamas Police Force, with his colleagues remembering him as an officer who was carrying out his duties when the crash occurred.

His funeral today brought together members of the force and the wider community to honour his service and remember his life.
