New Providence – On Friday, September 18, eighteen (18) Haitian nationals (16 males and 2 females) and two (2) Jamaican males were convicted of immigration offences before Senior Magistrate Kendra Kelly-Burrows in Magistrate’s Court No. 10.
Overstaying: ten (10) Haitian nationals and two (2) Jamaican males
Illegal Landing: eight (8) Haitian nationals
They received fines ranging from $300.00 to $3,000.00 and custodial sentences of one to three months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDOCS). Upon payment of the fines or completion of their sentences, be handed over to the Department of Immigration for deportation.
Andra Joseph (f), a Haitian national, also charged with Overstaying, pleaded not guilty and was remanded to BDOCS.
The same day, the Department’s Deportation and Removal units carried out deportation orders for seven (7) foreign nationals:
3 Jamaican males
3 Cuban females
1 Chinese male
