NASSAU, The Bahamas – The Child and Adolescent Unit (CAU) Library of the Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre received 200 books from the Rotary Club of South East Nassau.
This contribution marked a significant milestone in the ongoing enhancement of SRC’s therapeutic library and learning environment, directly benefiting children and adolescents receiving specialized care. The campaign is to receive 500 books for the library room.
The event also served to formally recognize the Rotary Club of South East Nassau for its steadfast commitment to youth development and community mental health services over the past 50 years.
The presentation was held on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at the library, in the presence of representatives and leadership from the Public Hospitals Authority and SRC, executive members of the Rotary club, and clinical staff from the Child and Adolescent Unit.
Dr. Annalease Richards accepted the books from Candice Smith, president of the Rotary Club of South East Nassau. Rotary pledged to donate other equipment to outfit the library.
The library room located in the Child and Adolescent Unit at the SRC is an in-patient programme servicing the psychiatric needs of children and adolescents up to 18-years- old.
The reading age of the unit ranges from primary school to high, with the majority of patients in the middle school range. Reading is being viewed as a “budding protective factor” and a key component to the inpatient programme.
