Bob Coughlin’s bait and switch on Bahamas! Bon Coughlin and Save Exuma Alliance LIES EXPOSED!
EXUMA| So the claimed eco-friendly developer down in Sampson Cay is attempting to move his argument away from reality, all to hide and conceal his failed resort idea.
Bob Coughlin came to the Bahamas with a colonial mindset, suggesting that he has come to SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT! Sound familiar? He came to save us. But from who? And from what?
Bob met pristine Exumas as one of the wonders of the world and, yes, in his own selfish greedy way, wants it for himself!
Bob organized a group of foreign mercenaries to join him in his quest, LYING to the Government of the Bahamas about their intention to build some eco-friendly resort where they would hire Bahamains. WHAT A LIE!
The resort supposedly promoted safe encounters for the visitors it would attract, creating local jobs which would keep the natural environment intact. WHAT A LIE! And we know it was a lie because, in an appeal hearing this past week, all has been revealed.
Some context: BOB, in his Heads of Agreement, took over some 124 acres of CROWN LAND in Sampson Cay with the intention to build this said resort. But where is the application for the resort? What is the dollar value to the local economy and the local spinoff benefits to the local island community?
To date, BOB Coughlin has not even presented an application for such a thing to happen!
That is a classic bait and switch: promise a resort with public benefits, then pursue a private retreat. That’s the colonial plot!
At the Town Planning hearing last week, Mr Jeffrey Clarke, the lead man for BOB on the ground, said the change from the promised resort to a private residence was made in March, although he appeared uncertain whether the year was 2024 or 2025.
Either way, it happened well before Bob Coughlin told Bahamians in 2026 that government action had forced him to stop building his eco-resort and lay off 53 Bahamian workers. Remember the workers fired in the hope it would tilt the General Elections against the Davis Government?
Think about what those workers heard. They were told the resort had been brought to a halt. The public heard the same story. Yet Clarke’s testimony indicates, before the Tribunal recorded that, Coughlin had already decided to build something fundamentally different. The Bahamian jobs and guest experience remained central to the public argument even after the resort plan had been set aside.
Clarke sought to justify the change by saying Coughlin had paid “a lot of money” for the land. The reported figure is $20,000 an acre for land on a cay in the Exumas. But Whatever Coughlin thinks he paid, that does not make a promised tourism development interchangeable with a private home.
And here is where we get on the bus: Bahamians are entitled to ask what became of the resort and the benefits used to promote it? And what now happens with all our land in what is now a clear BREACH OF CONTRACT in the Heads of Agreement!
Will Bob Coughlin now willingly return all our land Covenants following his change of plans? Or do we tear up the agreement and take back our things!
