NASSAU| A young mother is mourning the loss of her 17-year-old son today who drowned in waters on the South Sea of Bacardi Road gated community.

BP can now report teen Davontae Fleurimar, a 12th grade student of Royal Preparatory Academy, lost his life after drowning in nearby waters in the area while swimming with three friends.

The incident unfolded around 4:60 pm on Sunday when Davontae encountered grave difficulty staying afloat. Strong rip-currents are known to be in that area of the shoreline.

Two of the friends attempted to rescue him but were unsuccessful. Support teams from the Royal Bahamas Police and Defence Forces were called in to help rescue the victim, however, some hours later around 7:30 pm the lifeless body of Dovantae was recovered approximately 40 yards off the southwestern shore of South Sea Estates.

Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived on scene and examined the body and confirmed that there showed no vital signs of life.

An autopsy will be performed to assist in determining the exact cause of death as police will continue their inquiries into this latest incident.
