STATEMENT: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Science and Technology, the Hon. I. Chester Cooper Extends Condolences on the Passing of Jayden Ferguson of Harbour Island All Age School

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Jayden Ferguson, a 15-year-old Grade 10 student of Harbour Island All Age School, who passed away on Sunday, 25th October 2026.

The loss of a young life is always heartbreaking, particularly one filled with so much promise and potential. Jayden’s passing has deeply affected his family, classmates, teachers and the wider Harbour Island community.

Mindful of the emotional impact of this tragic loss, grief counselling and psychological support for students and staff began on Tuesday, 27 October with the assistance of local pastors and a psychologist. The Ministry, through its Eleuthera District Office, will continue to support the school community during this difficult period.

On behalf of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and on my own behalf, I extend heartfelt condolences to Jayden’s mother, Garthia Saintville, his family, friends, classmates, teachers and all who knew and loved him. We mourn with you and pray that you find strength, peace and comfort during this profoundly difficult time.

May Jayden’s soul rest in peace.
