NASSAU| Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Chester Cooper addressed the media Monday regarding the passing of a 16-year-old male student at R.M. Bailey Senior High School who was struck by lightning.
According to Cooper, the student’s guardian is also a teacher at the school, and he and his team spoke with her and offered condolences.
He said a team of counsellors has been dispatched to the school to assist students, teachers, and faculty through this difficult experience.
Prime Minister Philip Davis has issued a statement offering condolences following the passing of a student at R.M. Bailey Senior High School following a lightning strike.
The statement, posted to X, read, “Ann and I are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of a student this morning.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the student’s family, guardians, classmates, teachers and the entire R.M. Bailey High School community during this painful time,” it continued.
Davis also thanked the Minister of Education and his team for standing with the family and guardians as they face this “unimaginable loss.”
“I ask Bahamians across our country to keep this grieving family in their thoughts and prayers. I pray that God grant them strength, comfort and peace in the difficult days ahead,” Prime Minister Davis said.
