NASSAU, The Bahamas — Mrs. Ann Marie Davis, of the Office of the Spouse of the Prime Minister said it is with a sense of joy and community spirit that her office is donating back-to-school shoe vouchers for children returning to school.

Mrs. Davis said, “As the new Academic Year approaches, we are reminded of the many opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for our students.”

She said, “One challenge that often goes unspoken is the simple but essential need for proper footwear.  Shoes are more than just an item of clothing-they are a source of comfort, confidence and dignity.  They carry our children to their schools, their classrooms, where their futures are shaped.”

Mrs. Davis noted that the cost of shoes can be a significant burden and children might feel self-conscious if they do not have the proper footwear.

She presented the vouchers to four Constituencies represented by their Members of Parliament: Member of Parliament for St. Barnabas and Minister of Finance, the Hon. Michael Halkitis; Member of Parliament for Centreville and Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources, the Hon. Jomo Campbell; Member of Parliament for Mount Moriah and Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister in The Bahamas, the Hon. McKell Bonaby and Member for Bain and Grants Town and Minister of State for Innovation & National Development, the Hon. Wayde Watson.

Mrs. Davis also presented shoe vouchers to the Ranfurly Home for Children represented by Braniska Bullard and the Children’s Emergency Hostel represented by Bethany Moncur and Finisca Stubbs.
