DRUG ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS MAKE FIREARM ARREST

Officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit arrested three (3) males after they were found in possession of a handgun and ammunition. Preliminary police reports indicate that sometime around 10:10 pm on Thursday 02nd June, 2011 officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit were on routine patrol in the area of Hampton Street and Mount Royal Avenue when they observed three (3) males acting suspiciously. It is reported that one of the males on seeing the officers was observed throwing an object into a nearby building. Officers conducted a search of the building and recovered a handgun with ammunition. The men, two ages 36 years and the other age 34 years, were taken into custody. Active police investigations continue.

POLICE NABS ARMED ROBBER

Police quick response has resulted in a 23 year old male being arrested. Sometime around 4:45 pm on Thursday 02nd June, 2011 police received information of an armed robbery at Nassau Paper Company, Carib Road off Jerome Avenue. Police responded and on arrival to the establishment met the bandit in the process of robbing the store.

It is reported that the suspect, who was wearing a bullet proof vest, on seeing the police fired gunshots at them. Police returned fire, which resulted in the suspect receiving gunshot injuries to the hand and thigh. The suspect was taken to hospital via EMS personnel where he was treated and discharged; however, he remains in police custody. Police recovered from the resident of Strachan’s Alley, a handgun along with an undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be the property of Nassau Paper Company. Active police investigations continue.

POLICE INVESTIGATES TWO (2) MURDERS #241 and 242 since 2009.

Police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating the culprit/s responsible for the country’s latest murders. The first incident reportedly occurred sometime around 10:30 pm on Thursday 02nd June, at Constitution Drive off Boyd Road. Information received is that two males got into an altercation which resulted in a 37 year old male being stabbed to the chest with a knife. EMS personnel responded and pronounced the victim dead. Police are following significant leads into the matter. Active police investigations continue.

The second incident reportedly occurred sometime around 1:15 am on Friday 03rd June, 2011 at Summer Set Way off Carmichael Road. Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased on arrival to his residence was approached by two men, both of whom were armed with handguns, demanding cash.

It is reported that a struggle ensued between the deceased and the culprits which resulted in the 34 year old victim receiving multiple gunshot injuries to the body. EMS personnel responded and pronounced the victim dead. Police are investigating and appealing to members of the public who may have any information regarding this incident, or any other incident to call police at 911,919, 322-3333, CENTRAL DETECTIVE UNIT at 502-9991, 502-9910 or CRIME STOPPERS at 328-TIPS.

POLICE INVESTIGATES SHOOTING INCIDENT

Police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating the occupant/s of a white vehicle responsible for a shooting at Reeves Street, Fox Hill. Preliminary police reports indicate the incident occurred shortly before 9:00 pm on Wednesday 01st June, 2011. Information received that the victim was walking on Reeves Street when the occupant/s of a small white vehicle, fired gunshots in the direction of the victim which resulted in the 20 year old male receiving gunshot injury to the back. The victim was taken to hospital via EMS personnel where he was treated and discharged. A short time later, the vehicle was recovered by police in the College Gardens area. Active police investigations continue.

EXUMA POLICE TICKET TRAFFIC VIOLATERS

Police at Exuma are ensuring that motorist on that island adhere to all traffic laws. On Wednesday 01 June, 2011 officers of the Exuma District conducted road checks at Queen’s Highway in George Town which resulted in eleven (11) people being cited for various traffic infractions which include: Unlicensed and Uninspected vehicle, Driving a vehicle while not covered against third party risk insurance, Driving in excess of the speed limit and Driving a defective vehicle- having a cracked windshield. Officers of Exuma would like to encourage motorist on the island to adhere all laws as police continue with their efforts to make this Bahamas a safer place for all.

DRUG ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS MAKE LARGE DRUG ARREST

A husband and wife spent the night in police custody after officers found a quantity of suspected marijuana inside their home. Police reports indicate that sometime around 9:20 pm on Wednesday 01st June, 2011 officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant on the couple’s home at Hamster Road off Carmichael Road where they uncovered eighty-eight (88) pounds of suspected marijuana. The drugs have an estimated street value of eighty eight thousand ($88,000.00). Active police investigations continue.

OFFICERS OF THE MOBILE DIVISION MAKE DRUG ARREST

Officers of the Mobile Division took into custody a 34 year old man after he was found in possession of a quantity of suspected marijuana. Police reports indicate that sometime around 10:35 pm on Wednesday 01st June, 2011 officers were on patrol in the area of Braziletta Street, Pinewood Gardens when they observed the male acting suspiciously.

Officers conducted a search of the male and discovered a quantity of suspected marijuana along with an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the proceeds from the sale of drugs. Active police investigations continue.

OFFICERS OF CENTRAL DIVISION MAKE DRUG ARREST

Officers of the Central Division arrested a female after a quantity of both suspected cocaine and marijuana were found inside her residence. Police reports indicate that sometime around 8:00 pm on Wednesday 01st June, 2011 officers of the Central Division executed a search warrant on the home at York Street off Shirley Street where they discovered the drugs. The 53 year old female was taken into custody. Active police investigations continue.
