Police shooting – Andros Drowning and Drug Arrest

A man believed to be a Jamican national is dead following a drowning off Andros.

Police involved shootings –

Police are investigating two (2) separate shooting incidents that have left one man in hospital in critical condition and the other dead.

The first incident reportedly occurred around 2:00 pm on Saturday 17th March, 2012 at the Nassau Street Police Station which resulted in a 25 year old male being shot, while attempting to evade lawful custody.

The suspect was captured and taken to hospital where he is detained in critical condition.

The second incident reportedly occurred around 9:25 pm at Sea View Beach, Crooked Island which resulted in a male being shot.

The victim, believed to be in his early 30’s was taken to the local clinic where he succumbed to his injuries.A team of officers from the Central Detective Unit will travel to Crooked Island to assist their colleagues, with the investigations.    Active police investigations continue.

Police investigate alleged drowning at South Andros –

Police are investigating an alleged drowning incident that has resulted in the death of a 43 year old man.

The incident reportedly occurred around 3:00 pm on Saturday 17th March, 2012.

Preliminary police reports indicate that the deceased, along with another male was onboard a fishing vessel in waters at Driggs Hill Harbour, South Andros enroute to Lisbon Creek, Mangrove Cay when the outboard engine caught afire, resulting in both men jumping overboard.

It is reported that the deceased, believed to be Jamaican national could not swim and subsequently drowned.The victim was retrieved from the water and taken to the Mangrove Cay Community Clinic, where he was pronounced dead. Active police investigations continue.

Police make large drug arrest –

Two (2) men, ages 47 and 30 years are in police custody after being found in possession of a large quantity of suspected marijuana.

According to police reports around 2:40 pm on Saturday 17th March, 2012 officers of the Mobile Division executed a search warrant on a residence at Palm Tree Avenue off Wulff Road where they discovered the drugs.

The drugs weighed twenty-two (22) pounds and have an estimated street value of twenty-two thousand ($22,000.00) dollars.

Active police investigations continue.

Police request Public help locating armed robbery suspects –

Police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating three (3) men responsible for an armed robbery.According to police reports around 12:35 pm on Saturday 17th March, 2012 three (3) armed men, wearing white T-shirts and jeans pants, entered Variety Disposal, Soldier Road and demanded cash.

The culprits reportedly robbed the store of its cash registers containing and undetermined amount of cash and fled the area on foot, in a southerly direction.

Police are investigating and are appealing to members of the public who may have any information regarding this or any other incident to contact police.
