NASSAU, The Bahamas – A Reception was held in honour of the First Official Visit of PAHO Director and WHO Regional Director for the Americas Dr. Carissa F. Etienne, July 16, at Balmoral Club. Dr. Etienne, on behalf of PAHO/WHO, acknowledged the accomplishment of The Bahamas, like other countries of the Americas, in eliminating measles and presented Minister of Health the Hon. Dr. Perry Gomez with a Certificate of Appreciation.

PAHO launched a ‘Leaders in International Health Program’ (LIHP) in 2008 designed to contribute to the development of public health leaders in the region, providing a framework for inter-sectoral, inter-disciplinary, and inter-country cooperation. Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. Delon Brennen, the most recent Bahamas Ministry of Health graduate of the program, received from Dr. Etienne a Certificate for the Edmundo Granda Uglade Leaders in International Health Program, which he completed with Distinction.
