Nassau, Bahamas – The Cabinet Office announced today that Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Perry G. Christie, has advised His Excellency the Governor-General to make the following cabinet appointments, with additional appointments to follow:

The Hon. Dr. Bernard J. Nottage – Minister of National Security & Govt Leader in the House of Assembly

The Hon. Obediah Wilchcombe – Minister of Tourism

The Hon. Jerome Fitzgerald – Minister of Education, Science & Technology

The Hon. Ryan Pinder – Minister of Financial Services

The Hon. Jerome Fitzgerald – Minister of Education, Science & Technology

Senator the Hon. Allyson Maynard Gibson – Attorney General & Minister of Legal Affairs

Damian Gomez – Minister of State in the Ministry of Legal Affairs

The Hon. Michael Halkitis – Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance

Senator the Hon. Keith Bell – Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security

These particular ministerial appointments have a critical bearing on the three most pressing issues facing The Bahamas today: crime, the economy, and the need to re-vamp our educational system to better prepare our youth for the challenges that face them.

The Hon. Obediah Wilchcombe – Minister of Tourism

It is a reflection of the urgency that the new government attaches to these matters that this first group of ministers to be announced are centrally involved in the fight against crime; the revitalisation of the economy, especially in tourism and financial services; and the expansion of our investment in our youth so that they can be properly equipped to compete for good jobs in the 21st century.

This first group of ministers will be sworn in at Government House at 4pm today. Yesterday the Hon. Philip Brave Davis was sworn in as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Works & Urban Development while the Rt. Hon. Perry G. Christie was sworn in as Prime Minister and Minister of Finance on Tuesday.

All remaining ministers will be sworn in tomorrow in keeping with Prime Minister Christie’s promise that his entire cabinet would be fully assembled by Friday.

The Hon. Ryan Pinder – Minister of Financial Services

It is also announced that the Government has engaged former State Minister for Finance and former Central Bank Governor, James Smith CMG, as a consultant to the Ministry of Finance on a broad range of budgetary, fiscal and economic management issues.

It is also announced that the former Commodore of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and former Ambassador Clifford ‘Butch’ Scavella has been engaged to spearhead the setting up of a new body that will seek to more efficiently co-ordinate intelligence-gathering and joint strategic planning among the various law enforcement agencies in the country so as to ensure a more effective campaign against gun smuggling, drug trafficking, illegal immigration, poaching, and crime generally.

The Hon. Michael Halkitis – Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance
Senator the Hon. Keith Bell - Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security
Damian Gomez – Minister of State in the Ministry of Legal Affairs

  1. I NOTICE THAT THE MINISTRY B.J NOTTAGE MADE A STATEMENT THAT THE FNM MADE ABOUT THE CRIME HERE IN THE BAHAMAS. LIFE HAVE IT’S WAY OF CHANGE FROM ONE HAND TO ANOTHER. I HOPE THAT YOU BE FAIR ABOUT YOUR COMMENTS DURING THESE FIVE YEARS UNDER THE PLP. REMEMBER NOW THIS IS YELLOW AND NOT RED. HA HA HA HA

  2. BP I am glad for the clean sweep by the PLP because too much foolish and “victimization” have been going on in these Ministries/Departments even though the FNM claims they dont victimize. I hope Mr. Christie do a major shuffling of all the Permanent Secretaries in these Government Offices and take Papa Clown’s Protege (Mrs. Nicole Campbell – Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Youth) and place her in punchment like her brother-in-law “Papa Clown” did to other PS’ when he came back in power 5 years ago. Mr. Christie needs to know that she is very rude, arrogant and manipulative. She superseded many many professionals that were more seasoned and informative of the Government’s work and procedure. She brought the standard and morale of the ministry to its lowest. She have staff and peers (other PS’s) affraid to disagree with her if she is wrong. Affraid because either you would be transferred out the ministry or made to sit in a corner like a bad child. She bought in her clone (goforer) that sucks up to her and was the ONLY staff rewarded with a promotion in the Papa Clown’s Election Trick Promotional Exercise. This lady was a First Assistant Secretary turned Deputy Permanent Secretary over night. Papa Clown Protege comes to work late eveyday and sits in meeting all day long with her after office chicken in the bag crew to discuss who to move next. Mr. Christie please look into moving this woman because her aim would only be to make the PLP Fall and look bad and make the people sorry that they voted PLP. She wasn’t doing no work under the FNM her Government so imagine under the PLP a Government she HATES! GET HER OUT and give her NO ministry to run. And I would also want the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture to know that he needs to bring his secretary or find another one and NOT use Pillsbury Dough Boy (Charles Maynard) Secretary because she is a die hard FNM on the losing Campaign Trail.
