Sea Breeze MP, the Hon. Carl Bethel announced some $9 billion investments into the country in the last 10 months of the FNM.

LISTEN NOW – Minister Carl Bethel – Investment Approvals

Nassau, The Bahamas – Sea Breeze MP, the Hon. Carl Bethel announced in parliament Wednesday that since coming to office, the FNM government has approved over $9 billion in touristic and business development projects throughout The Bahamas, including over $1 billion in investments for Grand Bahama.

What is interesting in all is this great news coming out of the ministry of finance is that Carl Bethel the minister of education. We at Bahamas Press thought the Prime Minister allow his now ‘Scandal Ridden’ junior minister Zhivargo Laing make such announcements. Is Zhivargo Laing still the serving Minister of State in Finance or is Carl Bethel acting in that office?

Minister Bethel announced that over $1 billion in approved developments for Grand Bahama includes the $900 million investment for the purchase of the BORCO facility in Freeport. The buyers will pay $40 million up front to the government in stamp tax on the sale of the facility.

Minister Bethel pointed out that the FNM approved over $9 billion in investments in less than 10 months, compared to the five year period in which the PLP approved what it claimed was $29 billion in foreign direct investment for the country.

The details came during the Minister’s contribution to debate on the government’s Bill for an Act to Amend the Local Government Act to allow for the approval of wooden docks by Local Government Councils in the Family Islands.

This Bill, the Minister pointed out, is in keeping with the FNM’s philosophy of improving the rights of local communities and giving them a greater say and more autonomy to chart the course of their own development.

  1. Stan671……YET unemployment is at and all time high, crime has increased to the likes we have never seen before, gas prices are outrageous, food and utility costs have almost doubled, the Treasury is broke, nothing of any substance has come out of Parliament and we have had 3 debates on the SAME budget, FNM scandal after FNM scandal has been exposed, $23 million was paid out and NOT one single school was completely or properly repaired, people are still having cook outs to help with medical bills, school chidren are being killed on campuses, foreign investors are pulling out because of the FNM stop and so-called review policy, tourism numbers are way down, political nepotism is at an all time high, court cases are still backed up, no government houses have been built, the sham of an immigration audit has shown no results, Grand Bahama’s economy has regressed even further, freedom of speech has been stifled, FNM cabinet ministers emabarrass us every time they open their mouths both at home and abroad, victimization is now the order of the day, the special interest groups are becoming richer, while the middle class and the poor are becoming poorer, campaign promises have not materialized…….AND THE FNM WERE TOO ASHAMED TO EVEN CELEBRATE THEIR 1ST ANNIVERSARY IN GRAND STYLE.

There was no 1 year report from the PM because he had NOTHING TO REPORT.

Everything ribbon that has been cut in the ast 12 months, and every major announcement made IS THE RESULT OF WHAT THE PLP LEFT IN PLACE…..these facts are easiy verifiable from newspaper archived articles.

Bahamians are NOT STUPID, NOR ARE THEY BLIND AND DEAF, NEITHER DO THEY HAVE SHORT MEMORIES…….WE ALL KNOW (INCLUDING THIS FNM GOVERNMENT) THAT NOTHING POSITIVE HAPPENED BETWEEN MAY 2ND 2007 AND MAY 2ND 2008 THAT THE FNM CAN CLAIM AS THEIR OWN.

THIS FNM GOVERNMENT HAS PROVEN TO BE WUTLESS

  2. Unfortuanatly The FNM government cannot control the price of gasoline. The price per barrel is controlled by the manufactuaring countries and suppliers. The Prime Minister has already asked for help from the United States and other countries on developing alternative fuels. The FNM government has also began giving out start up money for small Bahamian Businesses. Also major road works have begun on the New “Clement T Maynard” Highway that would run from West Bay to Carmicheal Rd. The putting up of Road signs and markings along the busy streets of Nassau for tourist and others to look too. Also the FNM government has begun the collection of over due loans and outstanding money that has not been paid back to the Bahamian people and Goverment from delinquent borrowers. The Government has also raised the amount of Food Stamp money to just over 2 million for Bahamians who cannot afford to buy certain food items. The Bay St. redevelopment program has also been set to start in early 2009 just after the renovations of The British Colonial Hilton. The efficiant collection of garbage collection and cleaniness of parks and roadways. The payment of moneies to the victums of the Sea Hauler tragedy and Freeport Hotel workers whose hotel closed down along with other family island opportunities have all been done by the FNM government in 1 year

  3. I think you guys missed the real story – what is important about this message is not who is delivering the message – But the message itself – The Message is BULL and most Bahamians do not give a damn about these ridiculuos announcements –

We are about ribbon cutting not ground breaking and whats in the pipeline – The FNM needs to get there act together, to this point and on the eve of their anniversary they do not have a single accomplishment that they can point to –

So 9 billion? Show me the money, the jobs and the opportunities! Right now I aint seeing none and wondering why they dont do something about the price of gas –
