BRILAND| Police on Eleuthera have launched a death investigation after the body of a juvenile male washed ashore on Harbour Island Tuesday morning, just two days after 15-year-old Jayden Ferguson went missing while swimming in rough seas.
According to police, shortly after 7:00 a.m. on October 27, officers on patrol were alerted by two concerned citizens who directed them to a beach where the body was discovered.
Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and confirmed that the juvenile showed no signs of life.
Police said foul play is not suspected at this time. The body is believed to be that of Jayden Ferguson, who went swimming on Sunday, but remains unidentified pending official identification. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
The discovery follows Sunday’s incident in which Ferguson was feared drowned after he and another teenager encountered difficulties while swimming in dangerously rough seas off Harbour Island.
Police reported that the two teenagers entered the water on October 25 despite hazardous sea conditions. One managed to make it safely back to shore, but Ferguson disappeared beneath the waves and had not been seen since.
Police have not yet officially confirmed whether the body discovered Tuesday is that of the missing 15-year-old.
Investigations remain ongoing.
