The aircraft, identified as a Learjet 60, was travelling from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas to North Eleuthera Airport in The Bahamas when it crashed at approximately 12:50 p.m. near the Cresthaven community in Palm Beach County.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), nine people were aboard the aircraft at the time of the crash. All nine occupants had been killed.
Witnesses described a terrifying scene as the aircraft plunged toward the ground before exploding on impact, sending enormous flames and thick black smoke into the air. Videos circulating online reportedly captured the jet’s final moments as it descended rapidly before bursting into flames.
The crash occurred near Military Trail, between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North, in an area containing residential properties and businesses.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene as firefighters battled the blaze. Authorities subsequently closed Military Trail in both directions and urged motorists to avoid the area.
