The late Jackson Burnside

Nassau, Bahamas – On behalf of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture and the Cultural Community, I wish to express our sincerest condolences to the family of the late Mr. Jackson Burnside.

The Cultural Community and the Junkanoo Community in particular will certainly miss this giant activist who has contributed significantly to the overall development of The Bahamas.

The country can attest that he dedicated his life to ensure that Bahamians were socially and culturally informed on historical and current aspects of the Bahamian way of life and he always offered ways for us to improve ourselves generally.

Mr. Burnside firmly believed and expressed the idea that “by the year 2020 more visitors would come to the Bahamas for our Art-Culture and heritage, than those who come now to experience the Sun, Sand and Sea”.  For many persons in the cultural community, this has become a shared vision.

The Ministry and The National Junkanoo Committee honoured Mr. Jackson Burnside in December 2010 and he was inducted into the Junkanoo Legends Circle.

We pray that GOD would strengthen his family in this their time of bereavement .
