Nicole Martin gets another term as President of Hotel Union

President returned following elections in Hotel Union…

Hotel President Nicole Martin returns as President of the Union.

David Beckford defeated in presidential race for the Hotel Union.

Nassau, Bahamas — Counting ballots into the early morning hours at the Shirley Street Theater has continued slowly following the Bahamas Hotel and Allied Workers Union elections yesterday. This morning count is confirming another win for Nicole Martin as president of the Union.

Ballots counted just after midnight proved that Martin had beaten her opponent two to one following a last minute surge on the ground where her supporters were driven out to vote.

A decision by the court had ordered an election to be held following a dispute entered by Team Destiny leader, David Beckford, a former shop steward in the union.

Voter turnout was low and not sufficient to topple the woman who had surprisingly won three elections earlier.

Beckford is said to have clinched overwhelming support on Grand Bahama – Ground ZERO where hotel staff numbers have plummeted.

However, major properties like Atlantis and Ocean Club on Paradise Island maintain strong support and ground organization for the Martin team; delivering an early morning victory.
