Dear Editor,

Yes, there were pains at the introduction of VAT but from my experience the new tax reform boldly taken on by the Christie Administration is quickly setting in.

A note from the Minister of State for Finance this week proved that Bahamians are complying with reforms to draw down our debt and meet the needs of the country.

According to Mr. Halkitis some 950 more businesses have registered for VAT. This proves that plenty-plenty money is being made in the Bahamas and, from the looks of things, revenue for the development of the country will grow.

I applaud the “A-team” within the Ministry of Finance who have taken on this major necessary reform in the country that has already alerted residents to become vigilant as to how they spend their money. We in the Bahamas hate change! But change is necessary to deliver a better quality of life for our children and grandchildren.

VAT is necessary and is already proving to be good for the country!

Signed,

Esther Beneby
