Nassau, Bahamas — A woman was beaten to the ground on Bay Street this afternoon, shocking guests and sending onlookers to her defense.
Bahamas Press wonders what is going on in this country? Why are officers loosing their cool when they see Bahamians, and when they got their hip cut in the same area just months ago, no excessive force was used? We don’t understand it, but we invite you to listen and watch the account of the drama which unfolded on Bay today from visiting guests.
More CRIME NEWS — SHOOTING
Sometime around 2:45 pm on Wednesday 5th January, 2011 police received information of a shooting at Myrton Avenue off Farrington Road. Police responded and information received that a male got into an altercation with a group of men and was subsequently shot to the buttocks. The 21 year old victim was taken to hospital via private vehicle where he is detained in stable condition. Police are investigating.
ARMED ROBBERY
Sometime around 4:30 pm on Wednesday 5th January, 2011 police received information of an armed robbery at Blue Hill Road near the Blue Hill Road Clinic. Police responded and information received that a female was sitting in her vehicle at Blue Hill Road when she was approached by two males, one of whom was wearing an orange and gray shirt and jeans pants and the other a blue shirt and jeans pants, allegedly armed with a handgun. It is reported the culprits robbed the female of her jewelry and fled the area in a waiting vehicle. Police are investigating.
TRIPLE SHOOTING
Shortly after 7:00 pm on Wednesday 5th January, 2011 police received information of a shooting at Homestead Street. Police responded and information received that three (3) males were standing at the junction of Homestead and Miami Streets when they were approached by two (2) males armed with handguns. It is reported the culprits fired gunshots in the direction of the males which resulted in two of the males receiving gunshot injuries to the leg and one to the hip. The victims were taken to hospital via EMS personnel where they are detained in stable condition. Police are questioning a 15 year old male of Fritz Lane in connection with this incident. Police investigations continue.

Sometime around 12:30 am Thursday 6th January, 2011 police received information of an armed robbery at Farrington Road. Police responded and information received that a male was at home with a family member, when two males one of whom was allegedly armed with handgun entered the residence. The culprits robbed the males of jewelry and other personal effects and fled the area in an unknown direction. Police are investigating.
DRUG ARREST
Sometime around 2:25 am on Thursday 06th January, 2010 officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant on a residence at Infant View Road and recovered thirty (30) pounds of suspected marijuana. A 43 year old male, believed to be a Jamaican national was taken into custody. The drugs have a street value of thirty thousand dollars ($30,000.00). Police investigations continue.
SHOOTING
Sometime around 2:20 pm on Thursday 6th January, 2011 police received information that a male was suffering from gunshot injury in the area of Balfour Avenue and St. Charles Vincent Street. Police responded and information received that the victim was sitting in his 2002 Nissan Sentra in the area of the basketball court at Nassau Village, when he was approached by a green Nissan vehicle occupied by a group of men.
It is reported that one of the males produced a handgun fired gunshots in the direction of the male which resulted in that male receiving gunshot injury to the left arm. The victim drove himself to Balfour Avenue and St. Charles Vincent Street where EMS personnel collected him and took him to hospital. The 24 year old male is detained in hospital in serious condition. Police are investigating.

I rode down Bay Street last night and yinner should see how the officers parked their cars all in the road and on the main pavement in the heart a Bay Street? Cars were parked all in front of the shops on Bay Street. On in the window of BTC Cybercell Office in downtown NASSAU. BOY, I HEADED TO CANADA.

WE LIVE IN A CIVIL SOCIETY AND WITH THAT IN MIND THERE ARE STATUE LAWS THAT GOVERN US AND THE GOVERNING BODY THAT ENFORCES THE LAW. A POLICE OFFICER HAS THE AUTHORITY TO ARREST AND USE FORCE WHERE THERE IS RESISTANCE, IF SHE RESISTED THEN HE IS IN HIS RIGHTS TO TAKE ACTION, NOT BECAUSE SHE IS A FEMALE. TOO MANY BAHAMIANS IN THIS COUNTRY ARE BECOMING LAWLESS.
I do agree police are suppose to uphold law and order…but where in the law books does it say if a person is alledgedly resisting arrest that the police have the right to BITE them??? Are you kidding me?? Biting???
The female police office DID NOT identify herself and she attacked the young lady while she was trying to explain to the officers that she conducted the tour all the time on that route and received permission from the Ministry of tourism to do so. She was also trying to not to alert the tourists because the officers (especially female police officer in plain clothes)was acting like she was on WWF or someone pissed her off earlier!!!
I don’t claim to know about what other officers have done and what offense they may or or may not have made…but that female officer as well as the male officer, need to be reprimanded to the fullest extent of the law!!! They need to be made exaple off becuase the entire incident WAS a disgrace, and an unwarrented attack..
These young officers clearly need more training and people skills!!!!

I am not an expert on anything except loving this country. What happened to Ms. Farah was wrong, and she was treated differently from the foreign persons. That MJ is the fact of the matter. This is disgraceful!! That young tourist who beat up the police officers in the market last year was not beaten. The barefoot bandit’s engine was shot out; no beating for him, but if you place the photo of the lovely Ms. Farah (the beating victim) next to the photos of the aforementioned young men it is evident what the difference is.
We are so “messed up” in our heads that we treat white foreigners better than our black citizens. Look at how we treat our Haitian and Jamaican bretheren while white illegal immigrants are ignored.

This is what happens when you think as a loving person that you are helping tourism and the country as a whole continuing the hospitality trait which causes visitors to return to the Bahamas. It is not the first case of Bahamians being chased and humiliated in Nassau or Freeport where there is no discernment of criminal versus guardian of hope . Sad that it would be loving your country continually while being neglected it places you in a position where these visitors would not return given the beating payment received by the female for her good work in assisting others. As it shows the mental state of the country is in dire need of healing.
the lady said she didn’t do nothing but then the man says they told her she was under arrest and she resist. What should they have done. Tell he ok when ever you ready to be arrested contact the stAtion. We need to stop thinking Tunnel vision and outside the box. We need to stop elaborating on these minor issues trying to being officers down but assist to show the country that we the people are tired of crime. First, let it happen to you or someone you know and care about and let’s see if you will feel the same. If when you’re on your job and you are talking to one police officer and turn away a person jumps you not in uniform and starts fighting you in the streets like an animal and then the others jump in and it’s okay because they are in uniform, that’s okay PLEASE!! What bothers me so is there were so many officers involved and they didn’t stop it. how do you leave your house for work and after stopping and talking with police you emerge with bite marks, a broken arm, strained ankle and stapes, scratches and bruises. That woman and I use that term very loosely is known to be a disgusting cop. A few days before she slapped some taxi cab driver in the Ministry of Tourism. She was moves from there because she is a problem. If they were doing their jobs none of things should have ever happened. So please don’t be so quick to make judgement, put yourself in other peoples shoes first
