NASSAU, The Bahamas — Mrs. Ann Marie Davis, of the Office of the Spouse of the Prime Minister said about three years ago, the Seymour family experienced a tragedy that changed their lives in an instant. A devastating fire destroyed the place they had called home for 25 years, leaving a family of eight without the comfort and security they had known for so long.
“For the Seymour’s, it was the loss of a place filled with 25 years of memories, birthdays, celebrations, family gatherings, laughter, and the simple moments that made that house their home,” Mrs. Davis said at the ceremony handing the keys over to the family in Ridgeland Park on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
Mrs. Davis, Englerston Member of Parliament and Minister of Tourism the Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin, and the Ministry of Housing and Land Reform helped to rebuild the home.
Mrs. Davis said, “We gather not merely to mark the completion of a house, but to celebrate the restoration of dignity, security, and hope for a family who has endured great loss.”
She said, “This occasion is more than a ceremony. It is a reminder of who we are as Bahamians—a people bound together by compassion, resilience, and faith. Today, we affirm that when tragedy strikes, we do not leave one another behind. We rise, rebuild and rejoice together.”
Mrs. Davis explained that In the aftermath of the fire, the family was forced to separate and stay in different homes. “For a family that had always been close-knit and accustomed to being together under one roof, that separation was especially difficult.”
She also told the Seymour family, “I extend heartfelt compassion. The loss of a home is more than the loss of a structure. It is the place where children take their first steps, where families gather around the table, where laughter echoes through the walls. Losing it was a profound pain, and yet, in the face of adversity, you have shown remarkable courage.”
Mrs. Davis commended the Ministry of Housing and Land Reform under the leadership of Hon. Keith Bell and his team as well as the Tourism Minister for their support in rebuilding the home.
