POLICE CONTINUE TO CONDUCT MAJOR OPERATIONS
In keeping with the Commissioner of Police policing plan for 2012 to “Tackle Crime and Enforce the Rules of the Road”, officers from the Southeastern and the Central Divisions conducted two (2) separate operations, on Friday 20th January, 2012, which resulted in a total of one hundred and seventy-nine (179) drivers being cited for various traffic offences, the closure of three (3) local bars and fifteen (15) people being arrested.
The first operation was conducted by officers of the Southeastern Division between the hours of 7:15 am and 9:25 am at East Street south and resulted in eighteen (18) drivers being cited for traffic infractions such as unlicensed and uninspected vehicles, cracked windshield and tinted windows. Additionally, officers arrested a 43 year old male for Immigration purposes.
In the second operation, officers of the Central Division conducted operation “Crack Down” between the hours of 4:00 pm and 11:30 pm at West Bay and Cumberland Streets, and East Bay and Mackey Streets.
The operation resulted in one hundred and sixty-one (161) drivers being cited for various traffic infractions, the closure of three (3) local bars for being in breach of the Liquor License Act and fourteen (14) people being arrested.Twelve (12) people were arrested on outstanding criminal Warrants of Arrest and two (2) people for possession of dangerous drugs.
Police are encouraging members of the public to ensure that their vehicles are in road worthy condition and in compliance with the Road Traffic Act. Drivers who fail to comply
will undoubtedly find themselves before the courts as police will continue with these operations.
POLICE UNCOVER FIREARM & SUSPECTED STOLEN ITEMS
A shotgun, a Lap top, an I-Pad, cell phones and watches have been confiscated by police after they were discovered in an abandoned building.
Initial police reports indicate that around 4:30 pm on Friday 20th January, 2012 officers of the Central Intelligence Bureau acting on information proceeded to an abandoned building off Faith Avenue where they uncovered the items.
No one was taken into custody. Active police investigations continue.
CENTRAL DIVISION MAKE DRUG ARREST
A 28 year old male of Mason’s Addition is in police custody after he was found in possession of a quantity of suspected marijuana.
According to police reports around 5:30 pm on Friday 20th January, 2012 officers arrested the man at Burial Ground after he was found in possession of a quantity of suspected marijuana along with cash, believed to be from the proceeds of drugs.
Active police investigations continue.
POLICE INVESTIGATES SHOOTING INCIDENT
Police are investigating a shooting incident that has left a 36 year old male in hospital. The incident reportedly occurred around 5:00 am on Saturday 21st January, 2012.
Initial police reports indicate that the victim, an operator of a bus service, was entering his bus when he was approached by a male armed with a handgun, demanding cash.
It is reported that an argument ensued between the driver and the culprit, which resulted in the driver receiving gunshot injuries to the abdomen.
The victim, a resident of Bishop Way off Windsor Place, was taken to hospital where he is detained in stable condition.
