Police confiscated five suitcases packed with 33 bricks of marijuana from a boat around 7 p.m. Saturday, north of Haulover Cut.

A Bay Harbor Islands marine unit pulled the 20- to 25-foot boat over for speeding in an idle zone, said Bal Harbour police spokesman Capt. Greg Roye. The two departments were working jointly.

An officer asked the driver, Kendrick Anthony McQueen, to pull the boat to a nearby dock, but the boat took off, Roye said. A short police chase ended at a nearby jetty, where three men were seen jumping from the boat, he said.

Found on the vessel, Roye said: Drugs worth $300,000 to $400,000.

Police were still looking for the men late Saturday. They said McQueen provided a Bahamian driver’s license when he was first stopped, leading them to believe the trio was from the island.

Anyone with information is asked to call Bal Harbour police at 305-866-5000.
